Utility Federal Technology Opportunities
A Multi-Client Study
November 2004
By: Edward Beardsworth
Consultant
This proposal is for the continuing multi-client program for energy companies to participate in an on-going investigation of technology resources of potential interest and benefit to them. |
Background:
UFTO also investigates technology from entrepreneurs, industry, venture capital, and international sources. A select group of major energy utility companies and suppliers have participated in the 10th year of this multi-client study, and are routinely making use of the technology, contacts, and intelligence-gathering.
The Proposal:
Using previous work as a foundation, this proposal is to continue the work for a select group of utilities who jointly support this comprehensive program to extend contacts and relationships with federal agencies and facilities. The program is comprised of an array of services and activities, including new and continuing contacts with labs and agencies, and individually tailored technology scouting and implementation support.
As the representatives of your participating company, you will:
Program Provisions:
2. On behalf of UFTO companies, the consultant will attend various conferences and workshops, and report findings on technologies and other developments. Consultant also reviews and scans numerous trade and general business publications and (online) news sources for items of potential interest.
3. In the evolving nature of the program, primary emphasis is now placed on startup companies and on developments in the venture capital investment arena.
4. All UFTO companies will share in all generic findings, including the consultant's reports, copies of publications, etc. as the information is obtained. Frequent (email) UFTO Notes highlight new developments and items of interest.
5. The UFTO Website provides access to a searchable database which is a detailed compilation on all the technologies and program information found in UFTO Notes and Reports. (Access to the database is for members-only, and passwords are issued on request to any staff member of an UFTO member company.)
6. Each UFTO company receives a credit for 3 days consulting time, for the consultant to provide specific as-needed inquiries, points of information, or other related support and services (e.g. internal communication and implementation strategies). At the company's option, a portion of this time can be used for a visit to the company by the consultant, for continuing dialogue on the member's evolving technology objectives, and to discuss program findings.
7. New companies receive in addition a 1-2 day visit by the consultant for overview briefings to introduce the program, and one on one meetings to provide the consultant with an understanding of the company's strategies, needs and interests.
Optionally:
8. More extensive additional consulting services, (e.g., accompanying
visits to laboratories, detailed technology searches, etc.) can be
provided
on a time and expenses basis.
Cost of Participation: (In North America) $15,000/year
(renewal)
$18,000/year (first year new membership)
(See Participation Agreement for payment
schedule options -- NEW

To assure a high degree of individual attention to each member,
the number of member companies
will not exceed 15.
Schedule: The Program will begin January 1, 2005, through
December
31, 2005.

NOTE: Reduced pricing and terms are available for companies (or
business units) that have a specific and limited range of interests,
e.g.
manufacturers, independent power producers, wires companies, or energy
service providers.
