Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA)
INEL is internationally known and respected for its work in risk assessment, which applies equally well to non-nuclear and nuclear facilities. INEL does all PRA training for the NRC and DOE. PRA involves the identification of plant vulnerabilities and potential safety enhancements, distinguishing what is important. This helps build risk-based arguments to work with regulators to, for example, avoid a shutdown on a technicality, and to develop less costly ways to reach a given level of safety.
