The National H2 Program is managed from DOE headquarters, and NREL provides technical oversight for the program, and performs research in the following areas:
Photoelectrochemical, via tandem cells
Photobiological, by bacteria and algae
Thermochemical, via pyrolysis of biomass and steam reforming.
Fiber optic H2 sensor for vehicles
Fuel cell vehicles
Technoeconomic assessment of near- and mid-term research projects
There appears to be significant congressional support of an increased Hydrogen budget to support demonstration projects; however, the H2 Future Act of 1994 did not pass the Senate.
